Yoshioka Kozuka

Signed: Gyonen Hachi Ju Go Sai

Yoshioka Inaba no Suke

This Yoshioka school kozuka is very rare in that it gives the age of the artist in the mei.  By the age of the maker it can be attributed to Yoshioka Terutsugu the 7th master who held the title from 1802-1849. The kozuka with arrow heads design is signed the same way. This design is very bold and unusual in that there is no frame around the nanako. It wraps around the side of the kozuka and stops along the back in a clean crisp line. This is the only kozuka I have ever seen that is executed in this manner.

This piece has Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu papers issued by the NBTHK.
